Trailing 12-Month Economic Activity- Montana

Jobs Kept and Created

Our first acquisition was Don’s Home Center, which has become the parent company for further acquisitions in the hardware store and lumber yard space. Don’s is a home center and construction supply store located in beautiful Hamilton, Montana, along Hwy 93. Started in 1994 with deep Bitterroot “roots”, this business is a lynchpin of the community, that was poised to disappear, and take jobs with it.

Over four years post-transition, we have expanded our garden center, created a preferred contractor program, redesigned the store and website, and increased staff by 60%.

Our second acquisition was Tripp Lumber Company, located in Missoula, Montana. Over the last three decades, Tripp has built a reputation for consistency and quality. We pride ourselves on producing innovative wood products, for both the interior and exterior of homes and businesses.

Now we are revamping our outreach and web presence, are in the process of expanding our product offerings, and have successfully transferred day-to day operations from the company’s founder, David Tripp, to our new general manager Ryan Tortorich.

We purchased Anaconda Building Center (ABC) in January of 2020. Located in downtown Anaconda, Montana, ABC is a lumber yard and hardware store that has served Deer Lodge County and beyond for the last several decades. The most recent owners acquired A-1 Building Materials in 2005, and while they changed the name, they prided themselves on keeping the same great quality of service, competitive pricing, and outstanding customer service. We plan to continue that legacy.

Superior Color and Lumber joined our portfolio in June 2020. The company had humble beginnings in the early 1970s as the ‘Color Center,’ a small paint shop in a back room of the Hilltop Motel. At the request of townsfolk, the founder, Colonel Robert Rutherford, later added lumber to his stock. In 2007, SLC transitioned ownership within the family, to Hope and Rob Kraatz, who moved the business downtown and added hardware to its stock.

Now, over two years into ownership, we have included to supply friendly service and quality supplies to the folks of Superior, Montana and the surrounding towns.

Copper City Hardware, purchased in January 2021 from Blaine and Janet Messer has been a community resource for the Anaconda area for more than 100 years. Shortly after the purchase, we made some substantial updates in an effort to provide even more tools, hardware, and home supplies for a growing community, while continuing to offer the same quality of service and expertise.

In September of 2021, we purchased Cabinets Plus Inc. Cabinets Plus was a family owned and operated business for 19 years, providing high-quality cabinets and countertops  for multi-family and high-end homes in the greater Missoula area. We are excited to continue offering this high level of service and products to the growing Missoula community.

Purchased in December of 2021, Burnich Framing & Moulding has been providing custom millwork in Montana for the last 35 years. The company provides custom doors and unique trim to match any historic or new home. They also produce rustic pictures frame moulding for local Missoula business and custom orders. Since the purchase in 2021, the business continues to grow its customer base and offer the same great service with a local touch.
